Tap symbol on the dishwasher lights up – What now?

There are numerous symbols on the dishwasher that can light up due to a problem. One of these is the water tap, which is displayed in different ways depending on the model and year of manufacture. Many dishwasher owners wonder what the sudden lighting up of the symbol means. We enlighten you with our guide.

Water tap lights up: Supply hose blocked

A blocked water supply is one of the most common problems that cause the tap symbol to light up. A pipe is not so much the problem, because the hoses are most often the culprit.

Immediately check your supply hose for kinks. If it is not kinked, turn off the tap and disconnect the hose completely. Then check to see if the hose is clogged. If it is, rinse it well until it is completely clear again. Also look for leaks and simply replace any that are damaged.

Not enough pressure

Another problem is lack of pressure on the pipe, which means that not enough water can be provided. This works in a similar way to a tap in the garden if it does not have enough pressure. You can determine on your own whether this is the case. To do this, all you need is a one or other container with a filling capacity of 5 litres:

  • Place bucket under water tap
  • Close the hose
  • Have a timer ready (e.g. stopwatch, smartphone)
  • Turn on the tap all the way
  • Measure the time until the bucket is full

If the bucket is full within 15 seconds, there is no problem with the water pressure. If you have to wait more than 15 seconds, there is a defect with the pressure. If you find out that this is indeed the problem, you should contact a professional. It is not uncommon to need to replace one of the components and a professional will know exactly which one needs to be replaced.

Program problems

More rarely, the symbol starts to light up when the dishwasher goes out directly during a program. In this case, it is not possible to resume the program immediately and no water can be drawn on either. You must then perform a reset for the machine to work again. Instructions for a reset can be found in the instructions for use of the dishwasher.
